How do buy a numberplate on Gingerplates?
It could'nt be easier - simply search for your ideal plate, click on any of interest and you will be shown the sellers contact information. You are then able to negotiate the sale of the plate directly with the seller.
What do i do if the numberplate i am buying is on a vehicle?
You need to complete form V317 available from DVLA (see our "forms" page) The following documents will also need to be taken or sent to a DVLA office for processing- 1. Registration document (V5C) for donor vehicle. 2. Registration document (V5C) for the recipient vehicle. Valid MOT certificate for both vehicles (if over 3 years old) 3. Photocopy of both tax discs. 4. Transfer fee of £80 Please see our "Useful Info" page for details of your nearest DVLA office.
What do i do if the numberplate i am buying is on retention?
If the plate is on a retention certificate V750 or V778 then you will need to add your details to this document and become the Nominee. This will then allow you to transfer the number to your vehicle. The fee for adding or changing a nominee is £25. You will need to take or send the following to a DVLA office. 1. The V750 or V778 completed and signed. 2. The registration document V5C for the recipient vehicle. 3. Valid MOT certificate for the recipient vehicle (if over 3 years old) 4. A photocopy of the tax disc. 5. Payment of £25 if the assignment fee is already paid or £105 if it is not.
How long does the transfer process take?
The DVLA aim to complete the transfer process within 4 weeks, but is often completed sooner depending on workload.
What will i recieve when the transfer is complete?
You will recieve replacement registration documents (V5c) for both vehicles, replacement MOT certificates (if over 3 years old) and replacement tax discs for both vehicles.
